A Teenager's Successful Skincare Regime | The Review

5:25 PM

Like most teenagers, including myself, our skin is on a roller coaster ride--from normal, dry, oily, and to acne prone. It seems like we can't ever get clear skin. My skin, specifically, seems to cycle through various stages; it will become more oily in the summer and dryer as the temperature gets colder. Over the past couple of years experimenting and trying out different products, I have compiled all of my absolute favorite skincare products that actually work or have at least changed my skin for the better in order to treat both my dry and oily skin. I would highly recommend all of these products to teenagers looking for better alternatives and  to rejuvenate their normal routine.
Morning:
Garnier Micellar Water- Every morning for me seems to repeat itself: my alarm goes off, I hit the snooze, I'm late, and I have no time to actually do a full on skincare routine. However, this micellar water has saved me so many times. I simply use a cotton pad, pour out a little, and it rids any grime or oil that was on my face overnight. No rinse and I'm out the door. For all teenagers (who prefer to sleep in), this would be a great product to try out.

Soap & Glory 3 in 1 Daily Detox Cleanser- When there is enough time to do the whole "shebang", I like using this cleanser from Soap & Glory. It does a deeper job at ridding all of the oil and leftover grossness. Created with menthol, it's extremely refreshing and wakes you up on days you can't wake up.

Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturizer- Moisturizing is super important even though some of you, including me, have pretty oily-combo skin. I love this Simple one because it's light and also leaves my skin very smooth. An article on Bustle.com reported that according to Dr. Eric Schweiger, founder of Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City, explains that "By skipping the moisturizer, your skin will dry out and in turn rebound with more oil production, which can actually cause more breakouts."
Night:
Origins Modern Friction Dermabrasion Cream- This was one of the first Origins products that I have ever tried and I have been really loving it. They are known for their famous skincare products and I was excited to try out some. This Dermabrasion cream is an exfoliant and helps to even out spots and discoloration. I've been using this every couple of days just because it's pretty harsh for your skin to be exfoliated every single day. It has really made my skin smooth and reduced the appearance of dry patches.

Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash- This face wash was the second Origins product I have ever owned and I am so impressed by them. I think this face wash does an A+ job at removing all of my makeup from the day. I like to do all of my face washing in the shower to save some time and water. Teenagers looking for a more luxurious cleanser will really love using this.

Mary Kay Indulge Soothing Eye Gel- Recently I have been getting into eye creams and gels. I know a lot of people like to use gels for their eyes in the morning but, I personally like to use them before bed and then I can wake up with smooth and refreshed eyes. You may not think that moisturizing your under eyes is very important as a teen, but in order to help prevent fine lines and dry under eyes, using a gel is vital to keeping your undereye skin in shape. Plus, it makes you look fifty times more awake (even during final exam week).

EOS Lip Balm in Coconut Milk- I am so addicted to this lip balm. This has changed the way I appreciate lip care. It smells absolutely delicious and my lips have never been smoother (woah Natalie, calm down it's just lip balm...but is it?). EOS has a huge range of balms, with over 9 scents in the collection, and are made with shea butter and vitamin E to protect your precious smackers.

Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Mini Body Butter- Soap & Glory is known for it's famous body care, specifically their body butters. One of their famous scents, Sugar Crush, has hints of lemon, lime, and ginger. It's great to use right before you go to bed to insure soft skin all day long. This mini travel size is great to bring to school and will fit in any teen's backpack.
For Special Occasions:
Fresh Soy Face Cleanser- It's been a struggle trying to use these two Fresh products very sparingly; they have done wonders to my skin. You don't even need more than a quarter sized amount of this cleanser to remove a full face of makeup. More on the high end side of skincare, is one of Fresh's famous skincare products, the Soy facial cleanser. It's great to bring on trips.

Fresh Rose Face Mask- I have only used this once and I'm trying to stretch out the rest of the product for another go. The packaging is just so small for how great this product is. It smells so floral and smooths my skin very well. For any teen wanting to pamper themselves after a long week of finals and exams, this is a great product to treat yourself with.

Glam Glow Youthcleanse Exfoliating Cleanser- This was another cleanser that I have still been trying to save because it's just one of "those" products that you want to last for ever and ever. It's great because I only exfoliate every so often and it only takes a very small amount to do the job. Glam Glow's skincare has been known to reinvent exfoliation and bring it to a new level. Teens also looking to improve their oily skin can really benefit from Glam Glow's products.

Financial circumstances in mind, not all teens can afford to have all luxury products in their skincare routine, and that's okay. There are countless inexpensive skincare brands that can do just as much, and even more, than the pricier brands can for your skin. If you are looking for more upscale products (and nothing else seems to be working out) I would recommend the products I mentioned above. Not everyone's skin is the same, it (unfortunately) takes awhile to find the right products that actually work. Try out the products that suit you and even talk to an expert to get diagnosed as to which skin type you have.
