- Keith James- Not My Day In the funniest way possible, Keith James sings about this terrible day. From knocking his taco off the table to to getting yelled at by “Miss Bossy”, Keith James’ not so good day transforms itself through the song in such a way that will make you want to have the best day.
- Willow- F Q-C #7 After graduating from I Whip My Hair Back and Forth, Willow now has completed her second album, with a completely new voice. Using the drums and the marimba, Willow creates a silly, almost childlike beat, in F C-Q #7 as she sings about how she has grown up since I Whip My Hair.
- Pogo- Uplar As a song only found on YouTube, Uplar is a compilation of sounds and words from the movie Up. With no real meaning or words, it’s a flashback to your childhood that gets the creative juices flowing, preparing you for the rest of the day. The artist, who goes by the name Pogo, has made lots of other compilations from other classic animated movies that are definitely also worth checking out.

Mood Lifters Playlist
- Matt and Kim- Hey Now The first time I heard this song, I was not sure about it. However, after listening to it a couple more times with a bit more of an open mind, it quickly became one of my favorite songs. It is so simple and happy and filled with goodness. It is perfect for anytime; homework, in the car, at school, you name it! Matt and Kim are definitely going to become big this upcoming year.
- Anderson Paak- The Dreamer Anderson Paak, in The Dreamer, is shouting out to all his “homies” who live their lives with free spirits are careless minds. Whenever you feel stressed, this song will be there for you to show you that no matter who you are or where you came from, you will do something good for the world.
- The Flaming Lips- Race for the Prize As a rock band, these guys are your typical garage band jam. They are an all around talented group who produce countless hits. Race for the Prize is the type of songs you play air guitar to while your best friend is rocking out on the air drums. While it is not the typical pop sensation that you hear everyday on the radio, this song should be likable by all people with all different music tastes.
- Taylor Bennett- Happy Place It seems that all the latest hype has been for upcoming artist Chance the Rapper. Well, here for the next fad is his younger brother, Taylor Bennett. Although he is his own artist, the family resemblance is clear through both of their undeniably similar voices and lyrics. Happy place is exactly what it sounds like; Bennett is escaping to somewhere that makes him happy, his music. His optimism in the song flows through the music into you, making the environment a light, happy one. Not quite a sing along (unless you can rap), but definitely a dance along.

- Frankie Cosmos- Fool Now this song could definitely be a hit or a miss. Frankie Cosmos, her screen name, is a local Chicagoan that lays low performing in bars and small venues. For some, this song may be too random to handle. For others, like myself, this song speaks the truth about feelings and situations. Although it has a slightly more deep message, Fool is a song that you and your friends can laugh to. A perfect background song for a chill hang out after school.
- The Lumineers- Sleep on the Floor Sleep on the Floor is about being spontaneous, sporadic, and adventurous. In this song, the Lumineers pack their bags and and leave one night just like that! While the band does not expect the listener to do the same, the do expect the listener to conjure up some creativity and a fun-loving spark of craziness. The fact that the band is able to do allow listeners to take those feelings away is what makes it so great.
R&R Playlist
- Jesse Woods- Gold in the Air In a cross between alternative and folk, Jesse Woods soothing voice and calming guitar will relieve you of any stressors from the day. He allows you to free your mind and open up to the image he paints in your mind; an image of the American 50s, where everything was simple and easy going.
- Bon Iver- 22 (Over Soon) If you do not know who Bon Iver is, you should. His electronic sound radiates relaxation and simplicity. The few lyrics he sings are near incomprehensible, yet that is what makes the song so peaceful. No harsh loud noises or voices, only a beautifully quiet voice and matching electronic chords.
- Seafret- Oceans Oceans is one of the more sad songs in this playlist. We all get in those moods where we just want to relate to something, maybe even shed a tear. This song might do just that. Seafret has one of those voices that reaches inside of you and can tamper with your emotions. Oceans is about a girl he is missing and by the end of the song, you will be missing her too.
- Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird- Head Home You can feel this artist's emotion he put into this song, and it pours through with not only his lyrics but his guitar. Although it does start to pick up after about two minute in, it stays mellow enough to keep you relaxed and comforted.

- Jhene Aiko- Stay Ready She is a soul and R&B singer who sings with her heart and with honesty. Kendrick Lamar is featured in this song and it is nice to hear him without all the loud curses in him typical songs. Aiko has a beautiful voice which is portrayed in this song especially.

- Tony Bennett- Body and Soul If you have heard Tony Bennett, there is no need to explain why he fits perfectly into this playlist. If you have not, here is why: Bennett is an old old old jazz singer with a deep, soothing, grandfatherly voice that automatically fills the soul with goodness. This song goes at the end of the playlist because you can literally fall asleep with this in the background.
